Jay Horne’s Sacrilege

Image
All men sacrifice, starting with Jesus’ example. Interchanging the name of Jesus with that of God is confusing to our youths. Let us be thankful for them all. Image edited by the Author I’ve always been a praying man. Passed down from my late Pawpaw, prayer was instilled in me to be performed at the dinner table. Just a simple one, always ending in bless those less fortunate than ourselves. There’s a lot of praying going around to Jesus these days. Lot’s of thanks and even more requests. I did my duty as husband and attended a non-denominational church with my wife and children. Wednesdays and Sundays. Worked overtime and double-time. When things went well, we thanked Jesus. When things went wrong, we blamed ourselves. In my graying years, my observations from the pew have led me to some reluctant truths. First of all, I wasn’t always happy to be at church. I would much rather have been jogging on the beach. Damn me now, if you must. A reluctant truth is, I went to be with m...

Coffee with a Father

Image
… Blending with a friend As I prepare myself for another meeting with Pastor Mark, I ask myself, “why prepare?” I’m really staying ahead of myself here. I mean, I use to reach out to the future with my little mental tentacles to see if there was perhaps any danger there waiting… Last month, I was wondering if maybe my meeting was going to be centered around the gross negligence of my relationships. This month, I’m more worried that he’s sizing me up for the proper straight jacket. God, I am glad that my tentacles don’t reach out, probing for danger anymore! Instead they reach out, probing for wounds to heal — no. Correction, they’re probing for hope. It’s different once you’ve hopped on the bandwagon. No one wants you to fail. In fact, Jesus wants you to heal, and to grow. Fulfill . I had this horrifying vision in my teens once when I did ecstasy. Most people love that stuff, but the one time I did it, I regretted it immediately, and for the remainder of my life up until this...

A Symbiosis with God

Image
The very first living organisms, bacteria, fungi, and alga had to marry in order to survive… We will have to do the same with God if we want to live beyond death. Edited Pic via Pixabay | Copyright 2021 by Bookflurry Inc. I recently had the pleasure of reading Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake . Merlin is a biologist, following in the footsteps of his father, who has spent countless hours studying the relationships between plants and mycorrhizal networks (fungal and root systems that spread out beneath our feet). These networks show traits of conscious action. Communications between fungus and plant is imperative in deciding which organisms will benefit from, or make a more fair trade, when it comes to nutrients such as sugar, carbon, sunlight, and water. What, you didn’t think soil was just dirt did you? Over ninety percent of soil is biological organisms. Fungi making connections with other microscopic lifeforms in order to live and spread. Conscious choices are being mad...

Pass Me Over

Image
What is sacrifice? Copyright 2021 Bookflurry Inc. I love it when people post a tiny piece of a picture and have you guess what the image might be. It reminds me that we all see only a small part of our journey. Additionally, the puzzle reminds us of how great and sometimes grave our imaginations really are. You can’t say you’ve never been briefly worried that you might zoom out and see a hairy nipple rather than a cute puppy smiling back. Can we assume that Jesus knew, as he held up his unleavened bread during the last supper, that the bread would be transformed into his body if he put it into his mouth and chewed? Yes. Just as he knew that if he drank the wine from the cup it would, by the power of transformation, become his blood. After all, that is what the body does. It takes in things and turns them into human. A spinach here and a carrot there, a glass of water and voila. The body does the rest. What if, like Siddhartha, who once finally loved a stone for being more than a st...

Be like Jesus; Better yet, be like a tree.

Image
Was there really a divine reason that Neo-christian religions, like the Pheryllt Druids worshiped the trees? Turn the other cheek. The idea almost seems foreign at times in a world where relationships are built over years and are dashed in a single moment’s misjudgment. You’d have to be a perfect person to love your enemies. But people are more vulnerable than trees. A tree thanks you with every breath you exhale. It grows an armor of bark, made from the thankfulness of your breath, the Mother’s water, and the Father’s light. Take a hatchet to its trunk and chip out a triangle for your doorstop. It will be hardly insulted, as you have given it life for all these years! It just stands in Thanks and offers what it can to its givers. A home for the creatures, air for the people, a conduit for the sun to the soil, a super highway for those with a voice ! The mighty oak, king of kings, will never say I forget what you’ve done for me. It will always see the true you. The willow will...

Is God really a Woman like Ariana Grande suggests?

Image
So, is  God a Woman like Ariana Grande suggests?      I love Ariana's song and her fearlessness in releasing it. More people than you think believe that God is of the sex or race that they occupy, but why?      Doesn't it just seem common sense to do so? Well then, why has God been mostly called  He  among humans since time immemorial? At the least, I would argue that the statement itself should be researched and verified to be true. Has God been called He  for time immemorial? I, myself can recall a few female God's like Hera, or Shiva... but were they subordinate to a greater God that perhaps was called He ?      Furthermore, does history really tell us the whole story of our origin? That is what we are really saying when we claim to know who or what God is, isn't it? So let's ask ourselves. What was our origin? Where did we come from? What was all of this  before we realized that we w...
